Insta-Police: this animal was legally killed in the Omay CAMPFIRE concession in Zimbabwe under CITES rules and was legally exported and then legally imported. The money from the trophy fee for this animal went to the community who has to tolerate living with 15-foot carnivorous reptiles that making bathing a bit more scary than the showers we have access to...so if you don't like African kids getting better schools, medical clinics, cleaner water, recreational opportunities and food, then by all means, delete the post again.
#tbt to a big lizard from #zimbabwe. I did not kill this. Another guy in camp got him, but he let me get a pic. I had just recovered my Cape buffalo and we were having a party in camp when the other PH and hunter rolled up with this guy somehow wedged in the back of his truck. The partying doubled!
These animals are not easy to hunt, despite their being one about every 50 feet of shoreline on the #zambezi.
They are stalked or baited, and since they can live 70-100 years before getting this big, they get pretty smart. Also, a perfect shot has to be made into their little brain or they will slither into the water and be gone. The hunter, Kevin, made a perfect shot. .
