"Every place has its own story. You just have to find out it."
Once inhabited by a king from Laekopan clan, Semau island initially had another different name.
When the family were out working on the fields, they found a cotton flower with 3 different colours. Thus they call this island "Bungtilu" (🇮🇩:bunga tiga warna/ 3 colour flower), _
Slowly, fishermen from nearby islands (Rote, Timor, Sabu) settle down at the island. The name "Semau" came up when the officials came & asked the locals what the name of the island is. Instead of answering, the locals replied with "call it whatever you want" in local dialect: “semau sa” (🇮🇩: terserah aja).
Therefore it is called Semau eversince 😂
