The most efficient way to affect the connection with the hammer is to NOT actively move the legs.
Do NOT pick the feet up and put them down as fast as possible (you may also insert the hip for feet). Doing so immediately disconnects you from the Force of the throw.
The idea, of course is that fast feet - picking the foot up faster to get it down faster - will enable one to catch the ball deeper.
THIS IS A MISCONCEPTION
But how is this still the thinking when thrower after thrower, athlete after athlete, those who consciously move the feet to move the hammer land late, with the ball behind them? Thereby losing whatever positive connection gained in double support.
At this rate, the amplitude does not grow through the final. You might as well be doing 4 (or 3), single turns in the ring. That doesn’t sound very efficient, does it?
It doesn’t make sense, if you’re thinking with *your* mind and not someone else’s mind.
As with many things in this beautifully maddening sport, it is a paradox of cosmic proportions.
