Smooth Ambler Old Scout American Whiskey, Bourbon Barrel Tavern & Toddy’s Liquors Collaboration Barrel 10340
Per the back label, one of the 2 whiskeys is aged in used bourbon barrels so legally/technically it cannot be considered a bourbon.
VALUE: Due to the reasonable price the value here is not great but still good.
On my recent trip to KY, I had to stop at Toddy’s Liquors and this is the store pick I walked away with. Per the back label, this is a blend of whiskey from TN and IN, so Dickel & MGP. What’s interesting is how a store would pick the blend here. Does Smooth Ambler go ahead and blend a few barrels and then the store “picks” from these blends? Or do they pick 2 barrels and let Smooth Ambler blend afterwards? So many questions! If anyone has any knowledge of this process please comment below!
Regarding the bourbon itself, it has been interesting typing this review. I’ve sipped on this 4 nights in a week and have had different thoughts about it each night. So before I continue, I want to get this off my chest - I am not a fan of some Dickel stuff. Can’t pinpoint a certain flavor, but it’s just not my thing.
This bottle drinks under the 107 proof, and is dangerously drinkable. But I’m really disappointed by the lack of flavor here. It just doesn’t do much for me. And this is what I’m realizing - not everything is for everyone, and unfortunately not everything can be stellar in your book.
