“The Stalker Called Moon Knight”
The macabre Moon Knight’s first appearance was of a man very different from the one we know today. In the August of 1975 Doug Moench and Don Perlin created the character for a two part story in which “the committee” needed to higher a mercenary to bring Jack Russell, the werewolf by night. We first meet Moon Knight in a furious battle with the werewolf, both men being pushed to their limits of fight and pain.
Later we meet the committee who was responsible for hiring Marc Spector, the once soldier fortune, veteran of many wars, martial artist and overall badass. They offer him $10,000 to hunt down the werewolf and bring him in, although the committees intensions seem shifty, Marc agrees and heads to confront the beast.
We cut back to the present and the all out battle between the werewolf and the Moon Knight, eventually Moon Knight gets the best of Jack Russell and calls for his long time friend and confidant Frenchie to bring in the helicopter. The story and battle continues in Werewolf by Night 33.
Moon Knight is brought back in Marvel Spotlight 28 about one year later for his first stand alone story. In that issue we learn much more about this mysterious character and his many alternate personalities. Moon Knight went on to join a number of Marvel characters on adventures, until he got his first stand alone title in 1980.
